Updates and ramblings
Been a while since the last news post. Not that there has been a great deal going on lately with TIFW, but anything is better than nothing, right? XD

Anywho, ATG has started up again with his project, G-Man, as Dead on Arrival is seemingly nearing completion, as per his posting in the G-Man topic. So far, he has gotten some sprite work posted up that he has managed to grab from the original game. If you would like more info, check out here: http://tifreakware.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=996&view=findpost&p=9716782

I, myself, have managed to get sporadic work with pokemon completed. I just released a new version of the pokedex to ticalc.org, which now shows the text entries, heights and weights of each pokemon. This can be found here: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/389/38997.html

Our ever so talented Lachprog has been mostly silent about any future projects, tho he has teased us with a hint that he is looking into figuring out what his next project may be. I personally am rooting for a good mega man clone, but we shall take whatever we can get from his amazing talent. :p And I am certain that whatever it ends up being, it will win POTY on ticalc, as has his other 3 projects that were worked on.

The community seems to be surging into life once again following the cracking of the OS signing keys for all the current graphing calcs, save the Nspire. The Nspire is currently being worked on so users will be able to run ASM code on it. Ndless was the result of this work, however with the newer OS updates that TI has released, it has negated its effectiveness (ie it doesnt work) on 2.0, you have to downgrade to 1.0. More information can be found on Omnimaga and United-TI.

KermMartian of Cemetech has once again started working on Doors CS 7, now that his looming thesis for his school is finished. More info here: http://cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4406

Calc84Maniac has been working on a super mario clone for the 83+ that rivals anything we have seen for the 83+ line yet. Currently you will find a host of items that showed up in Super Mario World for the SNES, plus it has actual background music. This game is in application form, available only for the 83+SE/84+SE. Find the info here: http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?topic=746.msg31789#msg31789

A new asm builder has been in the works for some time, allowing users to write code in BASIC directly into an 83+ line calc, and then the program compiles it into asm to be run, so you get the speed benefits of an asm program. A great deal of information and updates can be found here: http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?topic=1453.0

As there are many projects out there, many of them amazing in their own way, check out the forums of Omnimaga and Cemetech for all the latest.

Now, back to work for me. :p

TI releases new 84+ OS, TIFW u
Texas Instruments has released a new OS for the 84+, version 2.53MP. If you have been hiding under a rock for the past week or so, this OS was leaked to us by unknown means, and has been under heavy scrutiny by the community. So far, there have been 20 BASIC tokens found, and some 96 asm bcalls located (I believe).

One of the key features of this OS is the new pretty print function, or known as Math Print (hence the MP in the version number).

While this sounds like an interesting feature, it might cause you some havoc if you are an avid game player with your 84+ or 84+SE. Namely, with the MathPrint turned on, any BASIC game utilizing the homescreen will see a MASSIVE reduction in display speeds. I tested the latest pokemon files (no you can not have them yet :p) and needless to say, Pokemon Purple is unplayable with Mathprint on. With mathprint off, it is slightly better, but still slow.

My own personal recommendation would be to stay away from this OS, unless you are an avid math user and do not care for games. Otherwise, let us wait and see if TI will be nice enough to update this OS with the slew of bugs we have found, fixed.

Now on to TI-Freakware updates..

The site has not seen a whole lot of activity recently, which is sad. I was hoping that with the recent progress Pokemon Purple has seen, that we might get some more visitors, but that does not seem to be the case. I encourage any who read this to visit our forums and at least say hello, the forums are quite lonely right now. :(

And as stated, Pokemon Purple has been seeing massive amounts of progress. I have managed to get the game ready for you to get your first pokemon. I am going through and finalizing the equations and such, making sure it will work on the first run. Once that is completed, all that is needed is to set up the pokemon party menu, and the battle system, and I can release upon the world, a brand new beta version.

Lachprog recently made it on ticalc.orgs program of the year yet again, with his latest project, Metroid, found here. This puts Lachprog up for the third one in a row for the 68k catagory.

Pokemon Purple updates
Been a while since anything was posted about this on the front page.

A while back I went through the entire game and wrote out the code on paper, and later went through that and corrected visible mistakes and updated the variables in a way that I reuse many of the same ones, freeing up a few. I applied that to the game engine and have thus been testing and bug squashing since.

Currently:

+Intro program works flawlessly.
+Save/Load is confirmed to working.
+Fixed a bug with the dynamicness of the ingame menu, wasnt compensating that you didnt have the pokedex.
+Walking engine seems to still work.

-Cant talk to NPCs at the moment.
-When loading, shows having 25 badges for some reason, something that needs to be looked into eventually.
-Need saving and loading screens. Otherwise just looks like a locked up calculator.
-When exiting the options menu from the ingame menu, borders only need to be cleared and reset.

And as requested by a user on United TI:

an image

The above is actually slower in the emulator than it is on the real hardware. This is what it looks like, at the moment, from program start to walking screen. Please also note that when Oak brings up a pokemon, it will be a different one everytime. Just something fun to add in there.

Find more info on progress in the forums. ^_^
